Free Drink/Wine Tags

Inspired by Mon Tresor vintage drinking straws, Little Sooti's party blog posts and stylish paper goods at Paper Scissors Rock Stationery - I have designed simple chic drink/wine tags based on Chic Mother and Baby's yellow, grey and teal palette.

These free drink tags can be used for gifts like if you are invited over to a dinner party. Great on wine bottles, candles, salad dressing anything you can put some string on.
All you need is:
1. Printer to print out this free templates here
2. Single hole puncher
3. Nice textured paper slightly thicker paper stock (than your standard 80gsm)
4. Twine (my fav is multicoloured Lox + Savvy twine available at Paper Scissors Rock Stationery and natural twine from Blossom Creations)

If you ever use them, do share with us so we can post them up!

Enjoy!

I love Coco Boheme!

French company COCO BOHEME is super chic. There are SO many things I love from their store:
  1. Blackboard stickers of all different sizes - particularly lovin' cute labels for my jars.
  2. The eco-design animal bibs which are made from potato starch and natural inks and are designed to deteriorate once buried in compost (just like our Dandelion feeding and cultery sets).
  3. Recycled cardboard storage decor and pedestal table
  4. Quirky lobster hooks

Sleeping Bub...

Have you heard about Mila's Daydreams?
Funny and quirky photographs of a baby sleeping in different scenarios like baby as an astranout, sleeping 'flying', larger than life, a toadstool plus many more featured on her site. It is a BRILLIANT concept similar to the Anne Geddes idea babies in cute pots and outfits. I wish there was one everyday - it would put a great smile in the morning I think!

Anyways want your bub to sleep warmly and comfortably which means you'll get a good night rest too - chic mother and baby have ErgoPouch Ergo Cocoons available in pink, grey, white and blue.

Sweetie Pie Bakery

sweetie pie bakery
The most adorable items on Etsy - felt look so good you just want to eat it! If you want to encourage your bub to be a masterchef or a food critic, I think these handmade toys are a good start! I cant get enough of these - create your own little gourmet restuarant. Sweetie Pie Bakery also has patterns available if your keen to DIY :)

Playful Pillows

If you have been following our nursery showcases, you'll spot cute handmade pillows that add cuteness to each nursery's or kids room decor. Here are some cuddly pillows that I am sure your little toddler will never want to leave behind... (and are stuffed with eco-friendly materials)

Mr Robot and Guitar from Ferm Living/Jaya Love Tekeko/Sleeping Bunny

Chic Mother & Baby also have two comforting 'When I grow up' pillows - ballerina for girl and pirate for boy.

Nina's House

o.m.g. a stylish baby house in a house. this is soooo brilliant, a beautiful conceptual and practical house where bub can sleep, play and poop!

The little house designed by Dave Keune accommodates all the necessities for a baby: a crib, storage and a place to change diapers. How great you can even hang mobiles off the ceiling like a room in a room! This must be very costly...

"The chest of drawers below can be opened and closed with a slight push of the knee so that both hands can still be available while changing the baby’s diapers or clothes. Playful cut-out windows ensure that parents can still keep an eye on the little one while he or she is playing in the playpen or sleeping. The entire roof can also be opened up by rolling back the roof tiles which are connected flexibly with bright yellow ropes." (from website)

My Colour Palette: Green & Navy

I would have never thought blue and green could go together without looking like an underwater theme - but I think this is a HOT colour palette - the navy blues and emerald apple greens - very refreshing.

Puffling Blog

If you ever mention Puffling, I definitely want credit for it :) It is my proud Aussie talent find with amazing and inspiring kid spaces. Puffling is an extremely stylish interior design for nurseries and kids room - lots of concept explorations (vintage, rockstar, colour palettes, decor) on their blog. Here are some of my favourite picks from their archive. Stay tuned for Puffling's photoshoot in late August (we'll definitely share it once Jane emails them over :). So if you ever need interior design services I highly recommend you get in touch with Jane.

Chic ABC Paper Cups

Forget boring plastic disposable cups for your party or event - meet these ABC paper cups instead. If you love to S-P-E-L-L you'll definitely love these! I have seen them around on packaging websites and was disappointed I couldn't get them here in Australia now I am so stoked that these chic ABC cups are available at My Little Jedi.

A simple concept designed by Seoul based IaM Design, these would be fun for kids and adults alike.

Spell your name, a message and even get cheeky with 'em I say!

Whimsical Pom Pom Nursery

pom pom nursery
Oh I am in love...

Tissue Pom Poms are popular lately, and definitely a great DIY project for a feature piece in the nursery as seen at little lovely and ah Tissue.

I found a beautiful whimsical nursery where the tissue pom poms soften up the nuresry space AND how adorable are the animal ceramics for the cotton buds and balls. There are so many crafty mums who invest lots of time and love into their nurseries :)

Mr Danger's Room

What a cool surname 'Jack Danger' followed by a great nursery with robots, lanterns and more. It is certainly not dangerous but colourful and whimsical.  This chic on a budget nursery was featured on ohdeedoh too. I think the bookshelf is a great creative arrangement! Robots is a great nursery theme for a boy don't you think? It is certainly a break from all the animal themes.

An imaginative kids room

This kids bedroom and playroom definitely stimulates and encourages a lot of creativity and imagination - the blackboard wall, mini library, tea set table, and large canopy tent. It is so feminine with a touches of pink.

Love discovering international blogs although can't understand the text, the images speak louder. I think this blog reference is in Spanish, all the way from Brazil.

Belle & Theo's Nursery

This is Miss Belle (18 months) & Master Theo (4 months) nursery, munchkins to Emma, a 20-something mum. Emma aspires to be a successful WAHM and blogs about her journey - The Wannabe Work At Home Mum. It is great when a nursery contains handmade sentimental pieces from family members and friends.

1. What was your inspiration for the rooms?
I wanted the children’s rooms to be a space of warmth, love and fun!

2. What is your favourite piece in the nursery?
It would be hard for me to pick just one piece, but I especially cherish the items that have been handmade: Paintings from my talented best friend; A cute doll from my sister; Gorgeous name displays from another dear friend; A beautiful blanket knitted by my mum... These are priceless gifts which fill the rooms with love.

3. Decorating a baby’s nursery can be quite challenging, what advice can you give for mums who want to decorate their nursery – where should they start? My best tip would be to get some open-box shelves. (You can pick them up cheap at Ikea) They are a simple foundation from which, it is easy to create the nursery that you dream of. I’ll try not to get too carried away, but the many benefits include:
  •  It is a great space-saver - A mass of rolled up baby wraps, blankets and linen will fit on one shelf.
  • If you need more storage, you can simply add another box.
  • Boxes are perfect for pint size things like baby singlets, hats, shoes and socks.
  • It is very easy to change the colour scheme or style of your nursery as your child grows... simply change what is on the shelves!
And most importantly, you can display all of bub’s childhood treasures... books, blocks, photos, toys, trinkets and teddies... and before you know it, you’ve created a space of warmth, love and fun!

Digital Art

We love professional photography and we also love art and illustrations, put them two together and you get very artistic digital art prints - something else to decorate the room with.

Lety Kemp, creative director of Fancy Little Me got in touch with Chic Mother and Baby to show us her funky, hip and creative digital art portraits. Liven up any nursery or kids room with these standout pieces, especially for a budding toddler that is an artist-in-the-making!

There is also the previously featured professional photographer Claire Miles of Frangipani Designs who adds a fantasy touch to baby and kids photography.

A Minimalist yet Charming Nursery

Another charming DIY nursery. While it is easy for to-be parents to shop til you drop with nursery items - sometimes it is the simplest nursery that is the most beautiful!

See the rest of their DIY renovations on their little Toronto house on their blog
They have some great ideas to make a chic home - sort of motivates you to want to DIY too - although wouldnt it be great if one of those better homes and garden makeover reality shows comes and do all the hard work :)

A Vintage French Kids Room

french nursery

I wish I could tell you more about Atelier Charivari but the blog is all in French! It looks like it is a store, I believe these images are from their store display? I do admire the unique vintage furniture mixed with the handmade vintage textile toys and accessories makes it shabby chic. Vintage furniture always has a certain charm that contemporary and modern decor can never match!

Apple & Moses Room

Today's guest blogger is Suzanna of Montresor (for stylish little people) we connected over our love of cupcakes and cupcake accessories like her handmade cupcake toppers and vintage striped paper straws. Now she is even adding more to chic and cute accessories for little ones on her store, keep up-to-date with her goodies on facebook. Suzanna shares with us one of her favourite celebrity kids room.
************

As I have two young boys and love reading toddler room ideas, I stumbled upon this very stylish kids room, by the talented Gwenyth Paltrow. She converted and redesigned {with the help of an interior designer} an industrial loft into a stylish, modern and contemporary comfortable home. I especially love the way she designed Apple and Moses’ bedroom.

Unique and in-trend ideas are evident in this room. Take a look at the chalkboard wall for instance- what a fabulous idea and excellent wall feature which encourages creativity- {I know my boys would spend hours on end drawing and writing}!

Another great idea is a bunk bed- something I have invested in and is great if your children have to share a bedroom together. I love the bold purple colour too which anchors the room and creates a ‘fun’ atmosphere.

A shaggy grey rug, beanbag pillows and a modern yet practical white table for the children are key pieces in this stylish little room.

A Nature Nursery

We LOVE Dwell bedding prints and it certainly seems to inspire a lot of parents. This fresh green and blue palette is a great boy nursery! A lively woodland forest theme with lots of owls and birds (boy, they are definitely a popular nursery theme). How cute is the felt mobile with the spotty cloud? Lucky Caleb, I'd never want to leave the room.

Kids Rooms you will NEVER forget

Wow!

Contemporary nurseries and kid rooms that break the bank! These nurseries and kid rooms are designed with creative use of the space, bold and inspiring colour palettes and imaginative themes. Of course each room is complimented by very modern and architectural furniture. Kids will never want to leave their room! Very interesting to but the crib in the middle of the nursery. Poppy's Room

Aside from a stylish room, an important consideration is storage! Kids grow so fast out of clothes, toys and books its important to think carefully about maximising the space without crowding your child's style.

Kellie from Mini Must Have shares with us her 3-and-half-year-old Poppy's room. What a great investment the retro kitchen is - I think we may have a masterchef in the making.

1. What was your inspiration for the room? When Poppy moved into a big bed I searched for what seemed like forever to find a quilt cover that I liked and one that would set the tone for the rest of the room. I loved the Kukunest range and at that time I could only find one place in AU that stocked the Japanese lantern print which I thought would be perfect for her room. I loved the dominant red colour and the Asian theme tied in with Poppy being half-Asian herself (though she is Filipino). I also loved the way the pink and red colour combination reflected her personality - feisty and bold but oh so sweet at the same time.

2. What is your favourite piece in Poppy's room?
  1. Corban and Blair frame that we customised with the word LOVE in it. This has been in her room since birth and I love the beauty of its simplicity.
  2. Red retro style kitchen - very cool and a classic play piece. Also doubles as great storage for all of those utensils and cooking items. Best of all, it's not made from plastic!
  3. Fizz lamp - When I was putting Poppy's room together a few years ago I struggled to find a children's lamp that wasn't covered in cliched kiddy prints. This lamp is from Freedom and we just added a dimmer switch to make it more user-friendly for a child's room.
  4. Ikea Trofast storage system - since we live in a small space we need to be creative when it comes to storage. The Ikea Trofast system is perfectly designed for kids and we installed two of them in Poppy's wardrobe to house all of her toys we seemed to be constantly tripping on.
3. What advice can you give for mums who want to decorate/redecorate their nursery?
Invest in classic pieces of furniture that will make the transition from 'baby's room' to 'child's room'. Poppy's bed was on the expensive side but we also considered the under-bed storage option that came with it. We also had a neutral colour palette to begin with (white walls, cement coloured curtains, grey carpet) so adding colour on top was easy. Incorporate elements that reflect your child's personality and think carefully about storage - such an important thing to think about when you consider all of those little toys that kids seem to accumulate.

4. If you had no budget what would you definitely invest in?
Since we have a 7 month old as well I have already begun searching for bunk beds that I like. I am loving the low-lying Amber in The Sky Bunk Bed which is priced at over $2000. Better start saving!

Mr Moo's Room

Shannon Wright of Cuckoo for Coco recently renovated her son's room - it is fabulous with a capital 'F', sharing her photos on Facebook has left a lot of mums in absolute awe and wanting to redo their own kids room. Ah Max is one lucky boy to have a mum with great style - love those Etsy Robin&Mould purchases :)

Inspiration:
With my business taking off I have recently needed to create a space of my own for creating so Max's original bedroom has become my work room and he has acquired a new bigger room....no better time than now to redecorate I thought, so big boy room here we come!

Max is a 4 year old with a very distinctive sense of style, which luckily his mummy loves too (majority of the time), so it's been great to get him involved in every step of the project too. Although still a work in progress, in redoing his room I really just wanted to create a space that he will love and one that he feels he has helped designed. As he is getting older he is enjoying 'hanging out' on his own more and more, and to have a space that is just for him was really important. He has loved searching out things for his new room with me so far, for such a busy little boy I'm surprised how long he can sit still to search through websites for what he is after.

We hope to achieve a mix of purchased items and 'mummy made', after all, he is my number one fan!

Favourite Piece:
Oh such an easy choice, the cane Egg Chair!

Bought a few years ago for a bargain price at a closing down sale this chair has done the rounds through nearly every room in the house but never fully received the attention it deserves until it found it's home in Max's room. It's funny as soon as it first arrived home he claimed it as a reading chair and now that's finally what it has become, his very own little pod to curl up and read in.

Lookin' Sharp

Spotted.  We love it when Chic Mother & Baby has similar wardrobe to celebrity's kids. It is like lux for less.

Nursery for the Beach Bub

This is the ideal nursery for beach lovers. The collection of colorful shovels (once the bub is old enough, can take it to the beach to build sandcastles!) starfish cushion, and brightly striped accessories make the ultimate beach-y look. The curtains to cover the 'wardrobe' are a great way to make the space look bigger.

Enjoy Cupcakes

Am sitting here with a cup of tea and a jar of chocolate M&M's for a Friday afternoon - when it suddenly dawned on me that I havent blogged about "Enjoy Cupcakes" – a cute little cupcake trailer store. Checking out their blog, I just found out that they opened a second store that compliments their 1964 restored vintage Shasta airflyte cupcake trailer. Unfortunately it is all the way in the US, but we can still enjoy the images!

The lollipop and sunshine colour palette setting is fun and stunning. Definitely one that would inspire us to entertain outdoor in the same manner for a birthday or party.

There are some inventive flavours like Chocolate Blueberry, Banana Orange Foster, Strawberry Peach Chardonnay - if anyone knows of a cupcake store like this do let us know!

A Polka Dot Nursery

boy nursery
Finally, a boy themed nursery with lots of dots and spots (we havent featured one since Hugh's nursery by Belinda at Nest Design Studio. Polka dots aren't just for girls. Contrasting blue and brown colour scheme that is a blend of traditional and modern design. Also love the detail on the light switch and fan blades to match the colour and design scheme. Who doesn't love super sized giraffe?

Images via Roomzaar - there are sooooo many real nurseries to inspire any parents-to-be. You can spend hours on the site for inspiration and research.

A b-line Nursery

yellow nursery
This would have been the perfect Chic Mother & Baby nursery - grey and yellow are our signature colours. Love, Love, Love this nursery with all the textiles and handmade pieces. My favourite nursery detail is the mirror wall surrounded by fabric collage art, oh and that cute frog made by the proud mum-to-be (ah she just gave birth last month) AND her own bunting textile design. Despite a mix of patterns and colours the nursery still looks very fresh and in harmony. Simply beautiful! I am sure many mums out there are very jealous and wish they could re-do their nursery :)

For all the details.

Miniature Fabric Flower Garland

garland
I found this DIY Fabric Flower Garland tutorial from Once Wed. You don't have to be a sewing whizz to create some handmade pieces for your home. Sure, it was intended for a wedding or party but I think it is just as fitting for a romantic and whimsical baby nursery as wall decor or hanging across the room.

Little Bird Decor

Now is the perfect time to introduce Little Bird Decor during our Nursery & Toy month at Chic Mother & Baby. For all your little touches to a girl or boy nursery, you'll find it at Little Bird Decor (especially if you are looking for cute and whimsical decals which are a huge hit at the moment). You can join Maryanne Priestly and her store on facebook.

1. How did the name Little Bird Decor come about?
The name came up as we wanted something that was little – which represented little people or kids and we went with the bird because they are just so cute, who doesn't like a little bird?

2. Which is your favourite product from your store?
My current favourite product in store is our Reflections mirrors - they are just so different and kid friendly, a great way to finish a themed bedroom.

3. Best sellers/Most popular purchases?
Out best sellers for the girls are the Ballerina Reflections Mirrors, Our Ballerina, Pastel Owls, Whimsy Nature and the Owls decals. For the boys our best sellers are the Monsters, Farm Animals, Robots, Sailing Teddies, Pirates and Transport decals.

4. What advice do you have decorating a nursery?

My advice for decorating a nursery is not to forget about the little finishing touches, like co-coordinating pillows, rugs, wall art, lamps etc. It really is the little things that people often forget but the most important in finishing off a theme.

5. Whats next for Little Bird Decor? I often get asked that question, I would love to have co-ordinating linen for nurseries and kids rooms that match out themes, perhaps even lamp shades, and more bedroom accessories. I'm always on the look out for products that are a little different.

withTWOcats: Violets Nursery

I stumbled across withTWOcats that have amazing nursery idea boards with a range of colour palettes and themes. My favourite nursery has got to be Lauren's nursery for her own bub Violet. I am in LOVE with the soft violet/grey/blue and orange palette.

She documents the entire process to building Violet's nursery from the idea board to the finished product.
1. The colour palette and DIY projects are divine - she handpainted the tree art!
2. Nursery Organisation - well thought-out and utilising every storage possibility. All baby like nappy supplies are tucked under the cot in a large container.

Check out withTWOcats blog for more nursery inspiration! Definitely a blog to follow. While you are there vote for her nursery at the Bump and see other real home nurseries (unfortunately not everyone can afford an interior stylist).

I heart Wooden Blocks

While Chic Mother & Baby has a range of Hess-Spielzeug wooden rattles and teething toys, we have been eyeing classic wooden blocks for our store. These vintage blocks are personalised up with photos of your family add great personality to the nursery. And this House Industries slab blocks are for us adults who love typography. My fav is definitely the Tree Branch Blocks.

A refreshing nursery!

Wow. This nursery room is stunningly modern Scandinavian with fresh patterns and bold colours! It could be something straight off a KiKKi.K catalogue. Designed by Sarah Richardson of Design Inc. Loving the giraffe lamp!

A Circus Themed Bedroom

This has got to be the most amazing and creative kids bedroom makeover. You would definitely want to steal ideas from this bedroom like Bravo to Kate Dixon for creating a playful and whimsical circus themed bedroom. Wow to the ferris wheel and the ring master painting/photo collage is my favourite bit. It is a beautiful and clever mix of vintage and new items.

Celebrity Nursery Couture

Celebrities who have access to top interior designers and $$$$ for dream nursery. Some are over-the-top and others are tasteful and elegant.

Marcia Cross & Minnie Drive nurseries are designed Anette Tatum. Tori Spelling's nurseries are quite extreme pink and blue - no cliches there!

Cuckoo For Coco.

How beautiful are these baby mobiles? Cuckoo For Coco's handcrafted mobiles are made by talented mum Shannon Wright, using felt, vintage paper and fabrics. Cuckoo For Coco has a range of exquisite handmade toys, decor and accessories for baby and toddlers. The mobile's movement and colours help stimulate a bub's imagination and of course add to the nursery's romantic and delicate mood. Great and unique gift idea ladies!

Thanks to Nikki from Paper Scissors Rock Stationery for telling us about Shannon!

A series of Nurseries

I was lucky enough to stumble onto Nest Egg who had put together a collection of pretty chic nurseries. These are a few I have selected to show the range of nursery styles, decor and colour palettes.

Gossip Tabloid Magazines

This week, the News has been horrible with random home invasions, mother shot her own baby and murder in our country that sometimes it is easier to silence out tragic and read only the entertainment stories. That is what I am doing during Friday's wine time with a hot cup-of-soup reading OK! Magazine. I just want to look at pretty celebrity fashion and pictures. Looking at paparazzi pictures does make you appreciate our privacy. I mean I honestly don't care about celebrities and their daily activities but it is entertaining (like how they can interpret a celebrities relationship based on one captured moment and body language and how easily everything can be SO taken out of context), sometimes bizarre and other times interesting. Hey trivia knowledge can be useful for entering competitions on the radio or magazines!

Ok I have to confess sometimes standing in line at the supermarket or at the servo station if there is a special offer on one of these magazines I am likely to buy it.

A Yellow Nursery

Isn't it great that people share and document their projects for others to get inspiration. See Mallory Gray's yellow nursery by graphic and interior designer parents Laurie and Andy of Rhoney Design.

The are more detailed photographs on Rhoney Design's website. I love the birds on the ceilings so that the baby girl can enjoy looking at before she closes her eyes. These are complimented by whimiscal treehouses.

Eloise's Nursery

Thanks to Claire Miles for Frangipani Photography and Designs (you may remember her photos from a previous post) for sharing her lovely neighbour's nursery - Eloise, aged 1. Eloise's nursery is very shabby chic. My favourite idea is the ladder for hanging pieces in the room.

Inspiration for Eloise's Room: My mother gave Eloise a rabbit the day she was born. It had small pink & yellow flowers. My friend had a painting with a butterfly, a heart and Eloise's name done, also in pink & yellow.

Favourite nursery piece: Eloise's change table used to be my mother's sewing desk. It has dovetailed drawers and is really well made. I also love the "little house" woolen blanket that sits on the armchair or over the cot rail.

Decorating a baby's nursery can be quite challenging, what advice can you give other mums who want to decorate/redecorate their nursery - where should they start?
When decorating Eloise's room I chose a neutral colour scheme. It's very easy to change the look of a room with accessories when you don't have to repaint. Some colours also stimulate babies so I think it's important to think about colour choice, overstimulation can make it hard for babies to settle, not something you should aim for when setting up your child's bedroom ;)

Jolie Petite Chose...

Jolie Petite Chose
Jolie Petite Chose in French means "pretty little one" - exactly what these baby mobiles are plus more! Jolie Petite Chose are handmade creations by another talented WAHM Jodie, inspired by her darling girl Charlotte.

When it comes to mobiles, we always prefer the handmade, battery-free versions that are as beautiful wall decor. I find Jolie's gorgeous mobiles less like mobiles and more like a piece of beautiful art, which means when your little bub grows up, it's still a lovely addition to a toddler room.

Her collection uses a range of pretty fabric prints to create dreamy animals and characters. It is no wonder she has been featured on many other well known blogs and recently internationally on Ohdeedoh.

I am truly drawn to the colour palette and vintage-like patterned fabrics. I really want one, just for me! So I too can dream like a baby.
